Maria Papaioannoy Duic

Founder, R4V (Rights4Vapers)

Maria Papaioannoy-Duic is a Canadian grassroots organizer and a leading consumer advocate for safer nicotine access, best known as the founder and spokesperson of Rights 4 Vapers (R4V). Founded in 2019, R4V has become Canada’s largest consumer-led movement defending adult access to lower-risk alternatives to smoking and challenging prohibition-style nicotine policy.

Driven by lived experience as a former person who smoked and quit through vaping, Maria has spent over a decade confronting governments, regulators, and public health institutions that exclude consumer voices from policy decisions. Under her leadership, R4V has organized national protests, policy submissions, and large-scale advocacy campaigns. In 2024, the movement coordinated and delivered over 100,000 letters to elected officials, one of the largest direct consumer interventions in Canadian public health policy.

In 2025, Maria hosted the first-ever Safer Nicotine Summit in Canada, bringing together experts, clinicians, policymakers, and consumers to advance evidence-based, rights-focused harm reduction.
